Even though Bigs and Littles can’t meet in person right now, a Big’s role as a caring and supportive person in their Little’s life is very important. We have encouraged our Matches and families to stay in touch and provide support to one another-relationships are more important than ever.
Our Big Brothers Big Sisters staff members are focused on keeping existing Big/Little matches connected with innovative and creative support through phone calls, text messages, digital learning platforms, and other technology-enabled engagement tools. With the required social distancing, and without the continued and consistent mentoring from our Bigs, many of our Littles could have escalating issues that they already face every day such as societal barriers, opportunity gaps, and adversities including poverty and identity-based discrimination in their communities. But having their Big be there for them—even though not face-to-face—can make a huge impact. Mentoring means our Littles won’t have to face these barriers alone, these positive relationships help build confidence and resilience.
While we think of our own families, professions, and how we’re coping, we must remember the most vulnerable among us are our kids.
Will you consider making an investment of any amount to ensure our Littles aren’t left behind?
Thank you to our LEGACY LEADERS!
